The Carpenter is responsible for building, restoring and/or installing structural woodwork and related materials. This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry. Specifically, the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry. The ideal candidate will be able to manage job sites with employees and other contractors. The Carpenter must focus on quality and customer satisfaction and possess the necessary mathematical and analytical skills to do material estimates.

What you’ll do

  • Responsible for the jobs given to them, completing jobs on time, on budget and ensuring a high level of quality within their work
  • Oversee project crew members, to ensure proper maintenance, repair and all other work is being conducted
  • Coordinate carpentry tasks and assist the supervisor in matters related to carpentry work
  • Lay building foundations
  • Prepare framing for cement
  • Perform drywall, boarding, taping and sanding
  • Put in flooring and scaffolding
  • Build required items including specialty furniture
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
  • Keep a daily log of tasks
  • Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
  • Construct and maintain structural woodwork, shelving, flooring, tables, chairs etc.
  • Perform renovations as required
  • Prepare estimates for work orders and request material required to complete the job
  • Construct finish and install wooden structures from rough schematics and blueprints
  • Analyze construction plans to create timelines and project layouts based on instructions
  • Ensure an adequate supply of materials is available
  • Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations
  • Provide guidance and instruction on a regular basis to team members
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with the client, manager, and subcontractors
  • Understand and comply with all policies and procedures

What we’re looking for


  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a carpenter
  • Formal training or certification in carpentry work would be considered an asset
  • Proven hands-on experience working with carpentry materials
  • Knowledge of carpentry and building maintenance
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment would be considered an asset

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • The ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction projects
  • The ability to climb ladders at heights of up to 60 feet
  • The ability to work with tools, lumber and materials
  • The ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs
  • The use of personal protective equipment will be required (i.e. hard-hat, safety footwear)
